Objectives

The intelligent irrigation management system will achieve the following central objectives:

1.   Rationalization of irrigation and water savings of up to 20% without affecting the quantity/quality of production. This will be achieved by applying an intelligent ML algorithm for pilot crops.

2.   Protection of crops from severe weather conditions by using modern forecasting and irrigation application algorithms.

3.   Protection of the environment/available water resources of the area by applying rational irrigation (avoidance of surface runoff and deep filtration).

The proposed system will include:

1.   Development of an Intelligent Irrigation Water Management System (ESDNA) and a standard solenoid valve for irrigation water management at the parcel level.

2.   Development of an innovative algorithm for the design of complete and deficit irrigation.

3.   Optimizing it through the collection of soil moisture sensor measurements and irrigation processes.

4.   Development of a mobile phone application to interact with producers, allowing data to be entered in digital control forms and providing instructions for necessary actions to be taken for the effective irrigation of their parcels.

5.   Development of a real-time interface between solenoid valves and EDNA using pressure and flow sensors of the solenoid valve.

6.   Training of farmers/geotechnicians and creation of a brochure that will summarize their findings in a structured way.
