Action Plan
The integration of IoT into smart agricultural applications through remote sensing and controlled monitoring of agricultural processes has allowed for a better understanding of the changing dynamics of weather, soil and crop conditions throughout the growing season.
The proposed precision irrigation system will be implemented in three cooperatives that grow Potatoes/Kiwi/Olives/Citrus/Avocados in three regions of the country (Agrinio, Kalamata, Chania). It combines a consulting irrigation software with materials for automatic control of irrigation, using the weather forecast for its regulation, reducing crop damage from extreme weather conditions and improving quantity/quality. Meteorological data and forecast will be provided by the National Observatory of Athens and other sources. The data on available water resources will be obtained from the relevant state services per region. The system will combine crop data, soil type, type of irrigation system, and meteorological data/weather forecast, and will decide the time and quantity of irrigation water per parcel. In addition, it will be able to create specialized warnings of extreme weather conditions. All producers can follow the advice of the system, receiving them by SMS/e-mail on their mobile phone, intervening in their irrigation system.
The evaluation of the Intelligent Irrigation Management System (IIMS) in relation to the empirical management of irrigation, will be carried out at the level of crop yield, product quality and water saving.
